Wherever I go on Thursdays, I’m having convos with our members. Yesterday I met up with Nancy Cooke, Community Library Specialist. Nancy has been an active Union member for many years. We talked about the current negotiations and what it means to be a public employee. Nancy shared some profound insights about the place of government contracts in setting the tone for all employers. She believes governments have a special obligation to be leaders in fair contracts, living wages, and excellent health care benefits. As an employer using the public’s resources, governments must be an example in our society of being good stewards of those resources through exemplary treatment of their employees. I hope our management shares this sense of duty and obligation to the workers who make Corvallis happen!
