What could have happened in our negotiations is becoming reality to our nearby friends. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to it, but also mentally prepare for it to come to fruition. I plan on joining our brothers and sisters with picket in hand.
A reminder: our very own Antonio Gisbert (the one who guided our bargaining team to the contract we ratified) is also negotiating Albany’s contract.
The silver lining out of this is an opportunity to experience first-hand what a strike could look like without being directly affected by it. We are not cashing out comp banks or having to budget tighter. Mind you, I said, “directly”. In the grand scheme, the whittling down of each union will affect the fabric of the whole. Unfortunately, our city workers to the East may have to deal with that. Let’s show support when we are called upon!
