Members Bring Our Case to City Council

On Monday, October 5th, Local 2975 members went to City Council together.
Inside, Shilo Anway, Jonathan Strittholt, Evan Newton and Bayley Adams spoke during community comment. They told the Mayor, councilors and City Manager where bargaining stands and what City workers are asking for: a fair contract that keeps experienced people in the jobs this city depends on. Watch the meeting video (our comments start at 7:40).
Outside, members practiced picket lines with our picket captains. We hope it doesn't come to that. If it does, we'll be ready.
We weren't the only ones speaking up. In September, eleven Oregon unions and more than thirty state legislators wrote to the Mayor and Council, urging them to direct City management back to the bargaining table with a commitment to a fair and respectful contract.
Thank you to everyone who came out on a Monday evening. Showing up in numbers is how the Council hears us.
